Have an Opinion on the Second Life Name Choice Process?

Well everyone seems to have an opinion on Second Life names, and it seems LL wants to hear them now.  You can find the survey HERE.  I took it, lasted less than 5 minites. Worth the time to get your opinion in on the matter if you have one.

Yea the Lindens were asking

Yea the Lindens were asking the mentors to take it.

Honestly...

I think that people should have the option of using their real name, as on their credit card, or a fictitious name for free. The rest, I think, should be chargeable.

And I don't think changing avatars, as per the current process for getting a vanity name, is right or fair due to no transfer inventory as well as 'birth time'. If I want to use my real name on my avatar, I should be allowed to do so.

Those that wish anonymous names should be given the same clarity.

Hmmm

Premium accounts should get the choice of name, basic accounts get the list.

That however runs into the same problem as your suggestion in so much as it would require you to provide your credit card details on signup and I doubt many people do that.

name change

We know it is possible to get your avatar name changed. Look up Cory Linden and you will see that it is no longer there. But if you look up Cory Ondrejka you will see that it is Cory Linden just with the name changed to his real life name. Also if you look in your inventory under library and pull out Kart 1.0 Cory Linden made the script but it is now created by Cory Ondrejka. Just a little fyi most don't know about.

Interesting

But oddly, that is not what they offer presently. I actually went to SLDev Island because of another issue... and the options there did not seem to include anything along those lines.

Custom Names Notecard
Last updated 20 November 2007

Dear Solution Provider,

We are currently offering the capability on a limited basis. Please note that name requests go into a processing queue, so may take up to 4 weeks. This information is posted in the Custom Names kiosk on SLDev island, so you can always get the current information and form there.

Please submit name requests to sldevnames@lists.lindenlab.com who will manage the approval process. You will be notified when a name has been approved or declined and entered into the queue for creation. We regret that we cannot provide you with status information about your request.

General information about Custom Names
- Please note that it may take up to 4 weeks to create the last name and account, although we are usually able to do this within 2 weeks. You will be notified if the name is approved, and again when it is created and your account billed.
- Please make sure that the SL account has completed billing information so that your account does not become delinquent when the custom name is billed.
- Names must have at least 2 characters; all characters in a name must be alphanumeric; no punctuation may be included. The name will be created with capital letters you designate in your request, so please carefully review upper/lower case!
- Content cannot be transferred to this account by Linden Lab.

Custom Last Names
- Upon creation of this Custom Name, the account given will be billed $1000. On the anniversary date, you will be billed $500 to renew the account.
- Last names must clearly be an organizational or corporate name, and distinguished from personal last names (Surnames). For example, Smith is not acceptable, but SmithCorp, SmithInc, Smith_Products, SmithConstruction, etc. are. Names that are clearly composite or made up (SecondLife, Agilent) will be considered.
- Please note that to create additional accounts, you must use the Registration API (http://secondlife.com/developers/api/reg.php). You may create as many additional accounts as you need (the initial limit of 200 per day, but you can request a higher limit). You may want to review the RegistrationAPI documentation before you submit a Custom Name request to be sure that you have the capabilities to use it to create additional accounts.

ok

I thought it was for getting your current avatar changed to a RL name. The option that you got from SLDEV has been availible for a long time. As Boomer Esiason which is a vanity name has been around since 2006, and Anshe Chung has ACS which is a custom last name has been around since early 2006. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

But I took the survey took under 5 minutes.
