Whatever Your views are on landbots, It's hard for anyone to debate that people are being taken advantage of and losing real money, a lot of money as demonstrated time and time again. The cowards that run them hide under the Second Life Terms of Service and Linden Labs refuses to get involved, take any action, or accept any responsibility so it seems residents are taking matters into there own hands now. Nobody told us about Jezebel Bailey who started a petition a few weeks back called "make some noise, Say NO to landbots." Marc Woebegone (Bragg v. Linden Labs) is now gathering information and looking at interest levels in starting a class action suit to reclaim loses. I think it's a worthy cause, so if You can contribute, please look over this notice he created for my land association and contact Marc.
Date of Notice: October 9, 2007
POTENTIAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO ENJOIN LAND BOT USERS FROM CONTINUING USE & FOR DAMAGES RELATED TO LAND ACQUIRED VIA THE USE OF LAND BOTS WITHOUT THE SELLER’S CONSENT.
We are investigating the level of interest from landowners harmed by the use of “land bots” within Second Life in obtaining a Court order preventing any further use of such technology and a judgment for damages on behalf of all persons harmed.
If you are interested in being a part of this action, and/or can assist the Class in obtaining relief; i.e., you have any evidence (which could include images of land bots in action, names of avatars that own land bots, names of avatars that own landbots on your land after acquisition, website URLSs listing land that was obtained by land bots for sale, chat logs, ims, copies of land bot scripts, etc.), or have been a victim by land bots, please join the Group titled: “Class Action against Land Bot”, send a note card to Marc Woebegone, and/or email what information you have to msb@lawy-ers.com (Marc Woebegone) at your earliest convenience.
It is important that any evidence be copied and preserved immediately before it disappears or is destroyed, so please help out if you can.
Regards,
Marc Woebegone

After Marc posted this blog
After Marc posted this blog entry I'm ashamed I ever associated with him. He is now combating bots with Spam ads.
hmm sounds like settlement was not on great terms :-)
I suppose the settlement terms were not very satisfactory for one of the parties :-)
re. the landbots: is there really a *bug* that allows the land to disappear before it is actually put for sale - or there are people who blindly click "yes I agree" several times in a row and later do not want to admit it ?
1) If this is a bug - then it needs to be documented with evidence and the fix aggressively pursued with LL as a security issue.
2) If this is *not* a bug - then the problem is either lack of usability, or unreliable connection between the keyboard and the chair.
Landbots are just exposing the real problem, IMHO.

The new breed -- the virtual ambulance chaser
Priceless, rip of SL and then come back to make more off the people suffering from the same unethical behavior he did. How noble is "that"?
how do I best help the other side?
To whom do I give money to help fight this asinine lawsuit idea?
Hehe.
Please pass what you're smoking.

Right on!! Join his group in
Right on!! Join his group in world. When I did I was only the 2nd member. We need to start contacting everyone we know who's been effected and get them in the group. I need to sort my notecards because I've had alot of people come to me with cases of bot misuse.
The way I look at it, people
The way I look at it, people say they will take action all the time but people rarley do. I think with Bragg, if He can collect enough evidence our chances are a lot better that action will be taken. I'm really hoping this works out because Landbot misuse is way out of hand and people are preying on the errors and gliches of others and argue it all You want, wrong is wrong.
Land Bots
This is a joke right? Marc is concerned about how residents are being taken advantage of by Bots? Now that I think of it, I guess he would know the TOS better than anyone. LMAO.
Come on Sarah, what about you?
When I was liquidating the Countless Galaxies land in Krypto you showed up along with all the land bots. Course the bots may be too dumb to sense the shoreline, so you scooped up the waterfront I had higher priced. However, you weren't beaten to the punch on the cheap 512s on the row behind by the bots either. If you dont use landbots, you have to have some software assistance on your backend helping you out there.
Economic rule of the ToS: Caveat Emptor. Its corollary is of course exigo caveo: Seller Beware. In a free market the seller is at as much risk of being taken as a buyer is. I've mispriced a few lots in my time. I kick myself, shrug it off, and move on to the next.
I find it odd tho: my estate land sells cheaper than mainland, we grant right to resell, have lower tier, and recognise property rights, yet the bots fail to buy my estate land.
I have never used any type
I have never used any type of software to find land. I check the listings and I check them often, so if I see something priced decently I tp and look. I always have watched the list closley, it's a like a 2nd nature. Before bots the only other people competing to find cheap land were other realitors, so I learned to check the list a lot and tp when anything comes up that I see. Talking to friends, I randomly look at the list. In between working with customers, I randomly look at the list. Even if my tier is full and I don't plan to buy anything I find myself looking at the mainland listings a lot out of habbit. It's what I do. If I did use any software, which I assure you and anyone else who watches the list closley can tell you I don't, why would I try so hard to stop the use of them and kill an advantage I had?
Theres nothing odd about bots not buying estate land. They are set to search mainland only. Also, I appolgise but I don't remember your name by what sim I purchased land of yours in. I deal a lot of land and tend to be bad at remembering names in general, let alone what type of land and what sim I purchased it in.
