Over the last few weeks, there have been a lot of hints at a Giorgio Armani presence within Second Life. None of the articles I combed through really demonstrated a substantive source - it has all looked like smoke and mirrors. From what little I understand of the fashion industry, that is par for the course.
Being a slow news day, I decided to look around. The standard queries in classifieds and places didn't show anything but a bunch of potential [w:trademark] infringement lawsuits, if Giorgio Armani doesn't do as Coke did. SLBrowser showed the same things (on left). Nothing, really.
So is this whole Armani buzz about Second Life real? I checked Giorgio Armani's site for press releases related to it. Nothing. I checked the news on 'Armani & "Second Life", and didn't come up with anything substantial. Fashion United reported it, as did modaitalia.net. It quickly became apparent that many of these references were just smoke and mirror redirects. Maybe someone somewhere said something about Armani and Second Life, but is it real?
The key is actually in Modaitalia.net's release, because if you do a search for Armani on the Second Life map... it would seem that you find an island 'Armani via Manzoni'. And if you Google 'Armani via Manzoni', suddenly you find all sorts of information on a real world presence.
So is it real? Looks like it. The island is closed - but it is certainly there.

armani misses the point
I had a look at the armani store in second life and I have to say it was really boring. There was nothing for sale and nothing entertaining in any way. Second life is a game not some sort of way for corporations to advertise themselves. Most people in second life dont appreciate this sort of thing and wont even visit. It seems really pointless and contributes nothing to the game at all. Its nothing but self serving. Whats the point of walking around some slick looking virtual Armani store with nothing to buy?? Was also very heavy on lag Armani has entirely missed the point.
Pardon?
I really don't get what you're saying, Fugazi. Multiple personalities? Was it a joke?
Anyway, you were asking for info, I answered. Sorry...
Ciao, Fabio Medby.
Yes, it's real
Yes, it's real. For months we've been hearing about this project, with no official press releases, if I'm not wrong. Armani in via Manzoni in SL, like the Real Life shop. I interviewed the owner and builder who is working at this project, last May. He made no comments at all, he just confirmed that the project exists and that he is the one working for Armani. I haven't talked to him recently. I don't think it's so important, after all... I'll just wait for an official announcement.
;-)
Ciao, Fabio Medby.
Hmm.
I believe you have multiple personalities, Fabio.
