Sex Breeds Sex, Business Attracts Business

I've been busy writing and editing, and during a break I was reading through the news items around the Internet related to Second Life. The writing easily falls into three major patterns in the media that are sometimes mixed by the better writers and journalists.

These are:

  1. Sex: There are some who seem oddly fascinated by the sexual side of Second Life - almost perversely so. These articles speak of the steamy hot sex life that one can have by typing one handed.
  2. Business: Some good and some bad business ideas. Some healthy questions which are in the minority. Some pretty dumb questions, and some pretty pathetic analysis by people who have never spent time in Second Life (perhaps no longer than to partake of number 1).
  3. Hype/Anti-Hype: Kind of sorts itself out.

The funny part in all of this is that the sex articles are often written with a tone of, "Second Life is nothing more than sex". This might be done to put people off. But what it does is gets all the closet one-handed typists out there sneaking into Second Life for virtual quickies which actually makes the articles somewhat self-fulfilling. "Oh no! This place is full of sex! Horrible", someone says, then gets home and quickly logs in.

The business articles aren't too dissimilar, especially when business research is boring. But imagine getting paid to explore a place full of sex! Aha! No wonder the first big law case is over a sex bed.

Kind of funny how it works...

Life, Sex life and Second Life!!

You are so right... it actually stirs me to some thoughts.. as it seems life, in all of its forms and declination is about sex, money of some sort and self aware, bloated egos...
Now, I come down thinking that all evolution in life, and all "new territories" have first to absorb the plethora of individuals that to some extent "cannot make it" (sex, money, life in general) in the former environment, plus smugs (bloated egos??), plus real explorers of the "new world of opportunity"..
As in lots of other mankind expression, the bad gets most of the press.... we may want to sit and wait, and after the storm there is always calm, and we can go back to doing the Future..
