Running of the Bulls in Second Life as Part of the Festival of San Fermin

Posted in

The [w:San Fermín|festival of San Fermin] is a week long festival, and looks to be a treat of Spanish culture. It includes the [w:Running of the Bulls], which just about everyone on the planet knows about.

The festival is named in honor of [w:Saint Fermin], the patron saint of Pamplona and of Navarre. The Sanfermines, as it is called in Spain, began in the medieval period as a commercial fair and secular fiesta, using for that the dates of religious festivals and using dates of festivals much older such as those of the Basques and Romans.

And guess what?

It's in Second Life too. Kukuxumusu (a spanish t-shirt brand highly involved with the San Fermín
since their roots) sponsored the machinima video, .

The bull travels the virtual world every night and invites people around the world to come to the celebration. Look for the Bull!

Special thanks to Carlos Lopes of Metaverso.es for pointing this out to us! If you cannot read Spanish, here is a quick translation of ¡Viva San Fermín! I did (square brackets mine):

Although usually we do not speak of our own works [blow our own horn], we will break with tradition to speak of the project that we have made to celebrate Sanfermines with Kukuxumusu.

Below you can see the video in Machinima [top right in this entry on Your2ndPlace.com] that we have prepared. It has been a very interesting experience. I do not know what it would be like to organize a scene with ten people in real life, but what I can say is that to do it with ten people was really exhausting (all were very amiable). Special thanks to Heckroth Fever (name of his avatar), pamplonés (?) that helped us much in the organization of the scenes with extras. And congratulations to Ana, our person in charge of Machinima.

¡Viva San Fermín!
