The forums take industrial action!

Forums are dead
It's a sad sight to behold, the forums, obviously aware of their impending doom, have decided to take industrial action and are not working to full capacity this weekend. This is all very sad as I'd like to search for some older posts, the forums have been closed before but got a stay of execution, this time there's no such luck.

You know, I'm not one of the "I hate the new software" crowd", but with Lexie's iron fist rule in full swing on SL Answers I really am not encouraged to participate in the new arena.

When I see a thread like this, it just makes me annoyed about what Linden Lab believe in with regards to freedom of speech, one of the huge things we pride ourselves upon in the west. This sort of behaviour does not improve the human condition, its a rather sad commentary on modern day society that comments that were neither offensive or derogatory are consigned to the dustbin of history in this fashion.

However Linden Lab can try and keep knocking us down, but we get up again, I'm not sure what academics will make of this in years to come but we just plod on don't we, putting it behind us and trying again until they throw another barrier in our path. However Second Life is full of beautifully creative people and hey, I'm fortunate enough to know some of them. My residents rock, on one island they build a wizard tower for me, on another I have someone getting Tauri Tigerpaw to hangout there sometimes, she may even have sung, I wasn't online at the time.

Last Saturday my medieval residents had the awesome Jo Heartsdale DJ'ing with a mixture of pipe music and Celtic type tunes, rather than the general disco inferno chart pap I run into. This must be more popular than I imagined and Jo has an imaginative avatar!

The Pipe and drum band were pretty damn awesome too, again this was something different to what I'd seen, i guess I don't get out enough but I'm very much encouraged to see a variety of themes for Second Life entertainment.

At the end of the day Second Life is about fun, how we achieve that fun is upto us, we hold that power, what Lexie erases shouldn't annoy me as much as it does, but it does greatly annoy me and nerfing the forums greatly annoys me too but I know it will go on inworld, the experience is still fun, despite attempts by Linden Lab to foist a sterile corporate environment. They'd get away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Re: The forums take industrial action!

Celtic rock, celtic fusion, celtic crossover and the good old celtic folk have a GREAT followership wordwide. There's dozens of websites dedicated to this genre, a huge number of bands from eclectic places like Newfoundland or Italy (well, for celtic music standards eclectic), and even in SL there is quite a wide followership for this type of music.

I hate the 25-group-limit for this exact reason :-)

Re: The forums take industrial action!

Perhaps now you understand why I refer to Lexi as "Hobnail"!

While those above Lexi may themselves be responsible for LL's overall trend of "listening but not necessarily hearing" the rest of us, it nevertheless appears to remain Lexi's arbitrary choice as to which threads remain unlocked and which get summarily stomped on.

In the meantime, I'm with you, and off back in-world to have fun with those people I've been fortunate enough to meet and get to know in SL and share yet more experiences with them! The party your residents organised sounds like the rest of us missed out! :)
