Well...
The client is open source. One could put something like GAIM in there... though I don't really see that as 'value added'. I have IM service(s) already and I have no using 2 or more applications at the same time.
And frankly, if they let that web browser in the client be used for something more than profiles and inworld help, a lot could be done with some AJAX and a shoehorn. :-)
