When I read about the first Animal Shelter in Second Life, I thought it was another PR attempt by a large corporation - but I did some digging, and I was wrong. It is actually linked to a real animal shelter in [w:Jamaica]: The Animal House.

Now that is cool - seeing someone from the [w:Caribbean] region linking a worthy cause to a virtual world, and vice versa. You can stop in, get a scripted animal for a fee - and help support an animal shelter in Jamaica. Seriously. You can check out the place: Shark (102,123,60).

If you really like animals, this is a cool opportunity to have a pet in Second Life while helping real animals. It is on a smaller scale than the WWF presence, but it is more focused as well. And it seems that it has direct results.
