Just Leap In – another me-too virtual world
– 3D worlds are the new gold rush after the social networks. The phenomena first brought to fame by SecondLife is now been mimicked by Google itself via Lively. According to a report investors put $184 million in 23 virtual worlds in the first quarter of 2008. With so much money chasing so many people, its not unlikely to have a virtual world prop up every other day. Just Leap In is yet another virtual world that wants you to have a virtual representation of yourself and the people around yo

Sosauce Hints at Amazing Future of Travel Websites
Today we have an interesting piece of news from Sosauce, a travel startup we reviewed on Profy first when it launched back in May. At the time we called Sosauce a place to have a “really fantastic super travel journal” because the site provided all the functions a user could dream of to have a perfect travel journal - and even more so this explains some of the admiration in our description. The platform allows to record everything related to your travel experience - from the route to photos and

Gibson on Second Life & History
Note: Today I realized that this post has been just sitting in my drafts folder for a long time, so long that when I saw the title I had no idea what it was. When I opened it and read it I thought that it would be a good post for the day. End Note. So today I was reading an interview that Amazon.com did with William Gibson. During the interview Gibson and the interviewer talk about second life. I really enjoyed reading what Gibson had to say (I can’t get into Second Life… it just does not ge

Millennials Are Taking Over the Workplace - Is HR Prepared?
I told everyone on Twitter last night that I would not be blogging today, but I had a slight change of heart. I got my interview questions from Lisa Orrell back just in time to post them and have content readily available to you. Lisa is also announcing her new MySpace blog for HR Execs and managers. Lisa is very well in-tune with the “millennial tribe” and how we are changing the workplace. She feels that it’s for the better and I can’t agree more. Her experience dealing with HR is invaluable

Rhi in a wedding gown?!
I was browsing through my endless inventory, when I came across a wedding gown and an evening gown. “When the hell did I get these?” I thought. I tried them both on, and while they were each lovely, I liked the wedding dress a bit more then the other. Turns out they are from Gracie’s Bridal. This gown I am showing you is called Moonlight Sonata. The bodice is very low cut in both the front and the back, and finished on each side (side meaning front and back openings) with tiny, blue flowers. Pe

The Second Life Factor on Fashion
DALLAS, Aug 19, 2008 / FW/ — With invitations and previews for the New York Spring 2009 season coming in fast and furious, it is easy to lose track on what’s going on with the other segments of fashion. An interesting development is that mainstream retailers like Kohl’s, Sears, even K-Swiss are starting to ‘sell virtually’ to the young with the hope that it will translate to real world sales. But, instead of using the very popular platform, Second Life, they have developed their own flavor

Walkabout: MoShang Zhao at his Comfort Zone
After another big day at RL work, I arrived home (too late, really) to see that MoShang Zhao was playing a gig at his SL residence, “MoShang’s Comfort Zone.” It’s always great to hear my friend from Taiwan. He’s added backing tracks for a few new songs - or at least pieces that I don’t recall hearing before. Such a wonderful talent…It’s always a treat to spend time listening to MoShang’s Chinese Chill. I always leave in such a better frame of mind! posted by Morris Vig on Evanda Island us

Still on the Stump
Be sure to check out this month’s issue of Business Week’s ‘SmallBiz’ publication, for it’s cover story, “First Stop: Second Life,” which explores how several small business (including Crescendo Design!) are using Second Life to prototype real life designs. I was told there will soon be an online slideshow to complement the print article, but [...]

Do the right thing for the environment
Do the right thing for the environment Posted on August 20, 2008 by Iain Hall I quote below from a most amusing piece by Craig Emerson published today in The OZ I suggest that it should be compulsory reading for all Latte Sippers because he enunciates very clearly the problem of following the Green Religion if you want to actually do the right thing for the environment. Recycling, we are told, is a good way to do our bit saving the environment. Anyone questioning the environmental benefit

The Giant Water Connected Sims..
Zatzai Asturias sent me this picture link today: This is the giant collection of mostly water void sims (more than 100, connected), of which her own Artificial Island and other sims are part of the bottom of. I have reported on this before, when the giant sea was considerably smaller. I had an interesting chat with Zatzai as I was requesting permission to do a photo shoot in her sims. She sent me links to the map above (click to see a closer view). It is important to note that these sims are

KA Design skins…yummy!
I had posted an event on our calendar about KA Designs Skins. I was not able to attend due to RL work, but I kept overhearing conversations all over SL about these skins! I went to the store to check them out. They definitely looked good from the store ads. I had a little chat with the creator, Kira Ahn, and she was more then happy to drop me the skins to try them out and share with you all! The skins are available for $1000 each, or you can get 8 skins in a fatpack for $6999. Pale comes in 2

Worlds apart
Understand world markets is something that should be taught in all schools of business. Yet, those that lead seem to be blind to different perspectives. I was thinking about this a little bit ago, where game publishers that also manufacture hardware don’t seem to understand world markets very well. Predominantly, this relationship is one on the level of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. What’s interesting is that with the next-generation consoles, we see something that has been plaguing console b

[berkman] Hub 2 - Community-involved development via SecondLife
Gene Koo and Eric Gordon are giving a Tuesday lunch talk on “Hub2: Creating Deliberative Publics through Virtual Worlds.” [I'm taking quick notes and will undoubtedly get some stuff wrong.] Hub2 is a partnership with Boston (Harvard is sponsoring the project) to enhance the community participation process. It’d be good to have a platform for deliberative process. But land use discussions typically ahve their own technical jargon. And it can be hard to imagine what a place will be like when al

29 Days to Shanghai
I’m trying to focus on getting ready for tomorrow’s address for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools convocation. But taking a quick glance at my e-mail, I just had to pass this one along — a video produced by my friend Carrot Revolution author, David Gran, an art teacher at the Shanghai American School. It’s entertaining and always eye-opening to see what a Photoshop master can accomplish, such as making David Jakes look good on the cover of Vogue Magazine. It’s worth noting that the confe
